In our family winery, in Rioja Alavesa, we strive daily to achieve something very personal. The knowledge that comes from experience, a long family tradition and the means provided by modern viticulture help us to enhance the value of exceptional fruit. And we are delighted to share it with you.

Family vineyards

The varieties
We specialize in the best known Rioja grapes, Tempranillo and Viura, which have brought international fame to our Denomination of Origin. 90% of our vineyards are dedicated to the Tempranillo variety, especially the oldest ones, almost centenary. The poorer soils, on the upper slopes, are planted with Viura, a high-yielding white grape that we use in our young wine and in Asun, an exceptional white.
Vineyard map and location
Pascual Larrieta has 21 hectares of its own vineyards, 75% of which are planted in the traditional goblet method and the rest are trellised. We have 5 hectares of vineyards over 75 years old, the rest being between 14 and 50 years old. Most of our vineyards face south and are protected from the cold north winds by the Sierra Cantabria mountain range. The vineyards are located between 400 and 600 meters above sea level on clay-limestone soils.
Cultivation techniques
Loyal to our origins, at Pascual Larrieta we pay great attention to the work in the field with the utmost respect. We constantly monitor the evolution of the vineyard cycle, we compost the pruning remains to use them as fertilizer and during the summer we carry out green pruning to control the quality of the production. These are some of the techniques we apply to achieve the best expression of our vineyards.
The grape harvest
The entire harvest is doubly supervised: in the vineyard and at the entrance to the winery, where the quality of the grapes to be vinified is checked once again. The grapes are harvested by hand in 20 kg baskets. We cool the grapes prior to fermentation if necessary.
